How to Prevent Losing Power – No Shattered Dreams

When something doesn’t quite go right in life, like nearly every day, we adapt pretty well. We might get angry or frustrated for a few seconds, but in general we’re all pretty good at handling the unexpected. No lost power there.

But sometimes the proverbial hits the fan and we go with it. Sometimes we’re really attached to an outcome and when it doesn’t happen the way we expect, well, you know.

A big shattered dream is just a little shattered dream only bigger. So, if we can deal with little ones, we can deal with big ones. Here’s how:

  1. Stop… stop fixing, fighting, thinking, solving, involving, cajoling, working, worrying. Stop and take a bit of time. The pain really does have to sink in and do its work.
  2. Be honest … one of the worst enemies of healing and dealing with shattered dreams is denial. Face it. Create a resolve. Don’t get sucked into the idea it might or it could or it should.
  3. Seek help … objectivity is so important but you do not get objectivity from mum, dad, brother, sister, uncle, auntie, mate, friend, ex partner or colleague – you get opinion and those are rarely objective. They know you too well. Pay for advice.
  4. Never look  back and say “if only” instead look forward and say “thank goodness”
  5. Finally, remember, there is no such thing as a broken heart, there is only a broken ego. So, as much as it feels like the world is coming to an end sometimes, remember, it’s just your ego cracking and that, from an evolutionary perspective is a good thing.

Enjoy and remember, hold the power.
