DAY 3. CALM … YOUR MIND – WALKACHI

WALKA CHI

ABOVE THE WATER THERE IS A FRAGILE CALM – WHILE BELOW THERE IS A POWERFUL STILLNESS – THIS IS WHAT WE SEEK.

A Master in the art of Living

Draws no sharp distinction

Between their work and their play

Their labour and their leisure

Their minds and their bodies

Their education or their recreation.

They hardly know which is which.

They simply pursue their vision of excellence

Through whatever they are doing and

Leave others to determine whether they are working or playing.

To themselves, it always seems as if they are

Doing both.

CALM POSTURE IS CALM MIND

If your body is trembling, it is impossible to be calm in your mind. Your Nervous system – and so, stillness in the mind requires three ingredients. Balanced Mind. Centred body. Calm Nervous System. These three in turn require effort in all aspects of being. Your mind with emotion will spin, and spin disrupts focus. Hence the Emotional Shower is important. Your body needs to be balanced. This is both side to side and front to back. Finally breathing, which is influenced by and influences your nervous system. With all three you can be in a state of stillness even when there is massive drama – but if you release any of the three by excess or deficiency then you will be without stillness and spin, we call stress, tired, emotional, and ill begins. You learnt the e-shower already so now it’s again time to do one on stillness. Benefits of stillness, drawbacks of those benefits. Benefits of spin, Drawbacks of those. At least 20 rows are needed to do this properly. Go on, do it now. The more you do and the more pressure you put yourself under to do it, the better you get. All four columns must add to balance.

“If your body is trembling, it is impossible to be calm in your mind. Your Nervous system – and so, stillness in the mind requires three ingredients.”

ENERGY MUST CIRCULATE TO GROW

While thoughts rattle around in your mind, stillness is impossible. Calm depends on this. But we can never stop thinking so there’s a dilemma isn’t there. If stillness requires control of thinking, and while the mind spins, there is no calm. So what to do? The answer is simpler than you think. Concentrate… Concentration is what a child does with a toy, what a tour de France cyclist does with a hard hillclimb and what a CEO does when listening to strategists and planning the growth of their competitive business. Concentration is what we don’t do when we have emotion, when we watch Netflix and when we drink alcohol. But concentration is what we do when we play computer games, gamble and play sport. The only variable is how long. It works like this: we will all concentrate on something, give it our 100% if it is on VALUE… If it is on someone else’s value we will be moderate or even emotional. I concentrate 16 hours a day on human development and tools to open minds and hearts. Nobody has to say “Chris, focus.” but when I do some housework or even drive the car and waste my time going anywhere, I have to force myself to focus. To practice focus, calm, stillness and concentration we use the corpse pose – See below…. You need to do this only after good exercise and stay warm. 10 minutes is fine once a day.

“No Yoga Matt. Outdoors. Reach for the Sun. Touch the earth. Smile. Open Your Heart. Withdraw. Simple salute to the sun moves every muscle in the body.”

VISUALISE YOUR FUTURE

Do you hear people saying “i only want calm” or “I’m looking for balance” – what do you hear if you listen? You hear them assuming that if they do x,y,z then the search will be over, they will achieve nirvana, a balanced life or a calm state of mind. Now, just imagine if they put allot of work into that goal of balance and huge hours into finding calm but the only result they get is occasional calm and occasional balance. How disappointed they will become and how stressed will they be? They will be way more stressed than when they started looking because with the added investment, and the added expectation of finding the unicorn there’s now the challenge they already had plus the failure and disappointment in not achieving their promised land. This is why people burn out, start taking their work down to 3 or 4 days a week, thinking the less they do of something the less stressful it will be. Wrong. Our expectations can ruin our life. Your Homework before tomorrow is to watch Loom Video Below ..

“It takes a lot of strength to sit still” Pascal said “all human problems come from the inability to sit still, in silence by ourselves” Spin agitates.

“Have you experience days when your head goes faster than your feet and when all the fun, happiness and reason for working so hard seem to evaporate? If so, you are experiencing just some of the overwhelming consequences of Spin – days when your head is going too fast even to slow down for a break – Solution is Balanced, Centred, Calm.”
