We all love a little bit of tension. It heightens our sense of being alive. That is what some rocket scientist calls Eustress. I call it fun. Intensity is what kids have in the sand pit, watching “Frozen” or whatever is on the portable electric baby sitter. That focus, intensity, tension is just part of doing stuff that makes us feel alive and awake and engaged in life. The body and mind is built for it and anyone who shy’s away from it usually ends up stressed. So, we live at the border of chaos and order, that’s alive. That’s nature, who grows at the border of chaos and order. But if there’s too much chaos, then we shift from enjoying it, to being a really bad version of ourselves. Stress really isn’t healthy. The key here today is to understand 1. What causes it. 2. How to not cause it. 3. How to deal with it when we do cause it. 4. To know when we are causing it and intervene early. Stress is cumulative. If you get stressed for a bit that’s life, it happens, but if you get stressed and don’t deal with it, and then get another stress and don’t deal with it, and then another stress and don’t deal with it you end up nuts, sick or both. If you are being coached by me and end up nuts, sick or both, you probably deserve your money back unless, when you get stressed you decide to skip a coaching session because you feel nuts, sick or both. If I asked you to score yourself on a 1 – 10 against each of the 7 areas of life (where 10 is blissfully happy and content and 1 is suicidally depressed) how would this look?
So your ‘VIP’ score would be the total of the seven scores. Are you happy with that?
The normal reaction for people in a funk (low scores below 5 in any area of life) is to focus solely on one or two of these areas of life. For example, if you are down in career, you might turn to a coach. Down in health, you might end up at a gym or personal trainer. Mentally down you might start meditating, and so on.
The problem with this is that as one aspect grows, another shrinks. You’re unfulfilled at work so you decide to drive harder but as a result, your family and love-life suffers. Or if your finances are struggling you might start worrying about money and ignore your health. Your overall score of [VIP score] doesn’t change, it simply changes shape. Old problems may go away, new ones appear.
Coaching has two basic goals in this regard:
1 Firstly, to achieve balance across all the 7 areas and
2 Second, to increase your overall ‘VIP’ score
Depression, divorce, financial breakdown, emotional trauma, mental health problems and illness are all long term consequences of being off track for too long.

Scores below 4 in any area need to be coached up.
Scores between 4 and 8 are great.
Scores above 8 is a warning sign that storm clouds are approaching.
