IT MAY NOT BE APPARENT AT FIRST BUT LEADERSHIP IS SIMPLY ABOUT BEING THE BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF AND, CHOOSING BETWEEN LOWER MINDED THINKING WE CALL REACTIVE AND HIGHER MINDED THINKING WE CALL THE JOY OF THE HEART.
Your heart is the core of your most powerful leadership, your inner joy. People follow your heart when it is open and awake. When you have finished exploring intellect and attending ceremonies, when you are exhausted trying to change the unchangeable, then you come to realise that the whole shooting match was all about joy, and it is already in your heart.
In this experience of your mental and emotional strength, joy connects you, people follow, it’s magnetic, there’s no need to follow an arbitrary standard, you are the best version of yourself and that’s powerful. With this experience, you feel joy for life and work and your individuality is not as important as it used to be and the business mission of leading others with rock solid reliability becomes easier. Then you can focus and relax. This is a great awareness, joy, your heart, it’s the core of good leadership.
At a business level, if one spent their whole life doing nothing other than opening their heart and developing the qualities of the heart, it is no exaggeration to say that this effort alone would bring them to the highest quality of leadership in work and life. Because it is through the heart that one feels solid, authentic and good, and it shows. In this place you and those you lead are connected. You have to know this totally. To separate yourself from others is to think you are great and others are small. Then you are locked in to your own problems. And so, we designed a system of going from GOT TO to LOVE TO, a process including the management of any situation so that you can maintain an open heart, joyful working, and stay accurate in decision making. In other words, trustable. This we call balanced thinking and it corresponds to the first and second universal laws of nature.
WHY IS IT SO CRITICAL TO THINK HIGHER MIND “LOVE TO” RATHER THAN “GOT TO?“
The heart represents the essential nature of a person and thus the development of the heart in leadership; the unfolding of the heart and the illumination of the heart are of the utmost importance on the path of your business success. This is the centre around which your work can revolve. But it is not the emotional centre. The heart is often mistaken as a nice fuzzy feeling in the centre of the chest, but that is the emotional centre. We are talking about the human heart that is not a feeling but rather a knowing. Called the inner voice, it is not a voice at all. Called the self it is not a physical existence. It is a pure knowing. And it is magnetic. This means your VIP scores in all seven areas of life are 8-10 and mostly 10. This we call abundant thinking and it correlates to the third universal law of nature.
To find your heart is to find your leadership style, a style that doesn’t waver, to hold a certain centre, and be true to yourself and others. It all begins with gaining a true sense of your real being and separating this from the ups and downs of your emotions. It’s a way to think and feel that reflects nature, is natural, and creates a certain inner confidence, a foundation from which your leadership may evolve. It can’t be separate practice from daily work-life because it is how to work in itself. It doesn’t mean rushing around solving the world’s or anybody else’s problems either, because those obstacles are countless and that rushing around is in itself part of the business’ problems. This corresponds to the second universal law of nature, growth.
When we explore the term heart in common language we find that ‘heart’ means the central or innermost part of something such as the ‘heart of the city’, it also means the essential or vital part of something such as “what is the heart of the matter?” A person with a ‘lot of heart’ is someone with determination. To ‘lose heart’ means to be discouraged so we see that the will of a person emanates from their heart. We refer to the heart when we talk about generosity or sincerity as well as consideration, understanding and helpfulness as when we say, “He has a big heart.” or “She is a dear heart.” When a person is cruel or mean or when someone shows no regard for others we say, “His heart is closed or small or cold or that he has no heart at all.” This corresponds to the fourth universal law of nature, harmony.
As humans cannot grasp the idea of a heart outside the body, there is a part in this body of flesh dedicated to housing the idea of the heart. This area is most sensitive to feeling and has been called “broken” at times, although no physical break actually occurs.
A leader makes hundreds of important decisions daily. They must therefore be aware of their own state of mind, their consciousness so that they can avoid error. This requires an intense awareness of the difference between emotional decisions (prone to enormous error) and heart made decisions (unlikely error). To do this we must know the difference between surface of our thinking, the lower levels of the mind, and the higher levels we call the heart. The higher levels of mind are for clarity the lower levels of mind are personality. Therefore, for any business or community leader it is through the higher levels of mind that we know good decision making will be guaranteed. Once a person understands the character and the mystery of the higher mind we call “heart”, they understand the language of the whole of social communication because they know the difference between emotion and heart. So we have choices. Listen to the higher levels of mind we call our heart or listen to the lower mind and personality (ego) trying to stake a claim with its stories of fear and uncertainty.
It takes a certain trust in knowing that difference. A leader, when faced with what seems to be an insurmountable challenge, we will dig deep and trust their heart clearly. It does not necessitate becoming righteous, the higher mind, the heart of leadership is not lived in temples, or on particular days of the week, nor is it addicted to a script; it is used every single moment of a leader’s life. From what people see of them, to what they think, to their secret thoughts and our secret ideas.
People say put your heart into it and that actually means to become fully invested. It means to throw the full weight of your mind and energy behind something. We know there are no half hearted success stories and so, we must, as leaders, be vigilant. Our heart must remain invested. Our higher mind must do the thinking and fight the tendancy to join the mass of lower minded emotional reactions.
So, if we can invest ourselves in maintaining the commitment of our heart we will automatically achieve many of our dreams as leaders in business and life.
During the 30 days you have learnt some skills. All of them focus on one single outcome, and that is your heart. A stressed person has a closed, unintuitive heart and can only have worry, emotion, stress and anxiety in their work. This is not leadership in any form. Nor is that good parenting. Good leadership is joyful. Enjoying the challenges of work and life. You have also learnt that nothing is forever. The skill to evolve, or transition, is the most important skill in life. You will gain things, and you will lose things. Gaining we love, losing we hate. But that is the mastery you must have if you are to be a leader and great parent. Things come and go. And your aspiration must be to know when to let go and find the same enthusiasm for letting go as you have for holding on. This alone is the difference between success and stress. A lack of joy is replaced by thinking, and that thinking can be in the lower mind, the emotional mind. When we are in our lower mind, we cause trouble for ourselves and others: our self-leadership goes out the door and with it the discipline and love for ourselves and who we are. Not only that, in our lower emotional self, we become righteous and rigid, fearful and riddled with regrets. This self, is a poor relation to the higher mind, a self we call your heart and joy. And now, through these 30 days you know you always have a choice.
You have been encouraged to connect with nature. I must say that I have a big passion for this. Having spent thousands of hours not only practicing yoga and meditation techniques, I have taught them. They are ancient, irrelevant and for the poor at heart. Emotional people benefit from those practices but more aware, higher minded individuals want and need a faster path to their heart. And that path is nature. You’ve been encouraged to walk in nature, observe it and photograph it. This is more powerful and certainly more complicated than you might think. First, you are not just going for a walk, you are searching actively to cause yourself to witness beauty. You might see it in an ant, a bird, or even the idea of sounds that animals make. You are learning to Link it or Sink it. Meaning you are engaging your consciousness in separating detail and observing beauty even in a dog poo. Perception is an amazing science and one of the keys to mental and emotional health. Seeing the world in a way that manifests what you’d love. This starts in the human psyche resonating with sticks, stones and even powerful views from the top of Mt Everest on your screen. People are different in nature. And that difference is astonishing. If you, like me, had led nearly 60 trips with 00’s of people to the Himalayas and 000’s of people into wilderness retreats and spa centres. you’d be as convinced as i am that we suffer from Nature Withdrawal, Nature Deficit Disorder because people are just so amazing especially in nature when they slow and smell the roses.
To lead is more than productivity. Good leadership leads to larger pay, and larger pay leads to more options and more options leads to service to others. To lead is to love because nobody follows (voluntarily) a closed heart and therefore love, even for work at work, is a sustainable experience for a leader at home and at work. Leaders cannot be stressed. A stressed leader is a joke. A joke leader must lead by force, tricks, and manipulations and this does great harm both to the stressed leader and to those they infect with their stressed leadership. A leader changes the world just by being themselves, their best self, and this recognition is so important for you because self-leadership is sometimes considered selfish. It’s not. It is the key to a better family and business culture. We must stop waiting for poor hamstrung HR to make the difference, the difference is made by us. When you work and live from your heart you do not get angry, you process. Someone says your work stinks, the lower mind will bite back, or get hurt, the higher mind will agree, yes, it must, sometimes. This demonstrates a higher state of consciousness than the insulter, and is the mark of the leader. All this comes in the discard form you have been shown in the programme.
